Transbay Construction Update

It provides a great overview of week by week construction activities, including what activities are taking place on a 24 hour basis.

For example, this is what will be happening at the Transbay site over the next ten days:

What to Expect This Weekend (12/8/12 - 12/9/12): 

Western Transit Center Site (Between Second and First Streets): Mass excavation and trucking of soils has become a 24 hour activity and will be performed Saturday, December 8 between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM. On Saturday night, December 8 and Sunday, December 9 the hours of operation and level of activity will be reduced. Dump trucks will enter from the construction gate located on Howard Street (between First and Second Streets) and exit the construction gate at First Street (between Mission and Howard Streets). Welding of trestle steel and cross lot steel bracing will be performed Saturday, December 8 between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM.

Central Transit Center Site (Between First and Fremont Streets): There will be minimal work this weekend on both Saturday, December 8 and Sunday, December 9.

Eastern Transit Center Site (Between Beale and Fremont Streets): Buttress construction is a 24 hour activity and will continue Saturday, December 8 with minimal work on site between 1:00 AM and 6:00 AM. On Saturday night, December 8 and Sunday, December 9 the hours of operation and level of activity will be reduced. This work has a scheduled completion of the First Quarter 2013.

Weekday Work (Monday 12/10/12 – Friday 12/14/12): 

Night Shift:

Buttress, Shoring & Excavation Work:

Western Transit Center Site (Between Second and First Streets): Excavation and trucking of soils will be performed 24 hours, Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 7:00 AM the next day. Dump trucks will enter from the construction gate located on Howard Street (between First and Second Streets) and exit the construction gate at First Street (between Mission and Howard Streets). Welding of the trestle steel and cross lot steel bracing will be performed Monday through Friday between 8:00 PM and 2:00 AM.

Central Transit Center Site (Between First and Fremont Streets): Excavation and trucking of soils will be performed 24 hours, Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 7:00 AM the next day. Dump trucks will enter from the construction gates at either First Street or Fremont Street (between Mission and Howard Streets) and exit the construction gate at either First Street or Fremont Street (between Mission and Howard Streets). Welding of trestle steel and cross lot steel bracing will be performed Monday through Friday from between 8:00 PM and 2:00 AM the next day.

Eastern Transit Center Site Buttress Wall: Buttress construction activity will be performed 24 Hours, Monday through Friday from 6:00 AM to 1:00 AM the next day. There will be minimal work on site nightly between 1:00 AM and 6:00 AM. Dump trucks will enter from the construction gate located on Fremont Street (between Mission and Howard Streets) and exit the construction gate at Beale Street (between Mission and Howard Streets). This work has a scheduled completion of the First Quarter 2013.

Day Shift:

Buttress, Shoring & Excavation Work:

The project excavation and trucking of soils has become a 24 hour activity with excavation down to an average depth of 60 to 65 feet. The excavation progresses from the west transit center site to the eastern end for the new Transbay Transit Center building and will continue through the end of 2014. The western zone excavation and bracing is in progress with a target completion of mid 2013, the center site is in progress and continues until the end of 2013. The eastern site excavation and trucking of soils commences early 2013 and continues into 2014.

Western Transit Center Site (West of First Street): Excavation and trucking of soils will be performed 24 Hours, Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 7:00 AM the next day.  Dump trucks will enter from the construction gate located on Howard Street (between First and Second Streets) and exit the construction gate at First Street (between Mission and Howard Streets). Micropile installation and testing along with welding of trestle steel and cross lot steel bracing will be performed daily.

Central Transit Center Site (Between First and Fremont Streets): Excavation and trucking of soils will be performed 24 Hours, Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 7:00 AM the next day. Dump trucks will enter from the construction gates at either First Street or Fremont Street (between Mission and Howard Streets) and exit the construction gate at either First Street or Fremont Street (between Mission and Howard Streets). Welding of trestle steel and cross lot steel bracing will be performed daily. The construction access trestle (allowed only for construction equipment) will open between Fremont Street and First Street.

Eastern Transit Center Site Buttress Wall: Buttress construction activity will be performed 24 Hours, Monday through Friday from 6:00 AM to 1:00 AM the next day. There will be minimal work on site nightly between 1:00 AM and 6:00 AM. Dump trucks will enter from the construction gate located on Fremont Street (between Mission and Howard Streets) and exit the construction gate at Beale Street (between Mission and Howard Streets). This work has a scheduled completion of the First Quarter 2013.

Underground Utilities/Trenching Work:

Mission Street (Between First and Second Streets): There will be underground utilities work and traffic lane closures daily, Monday through Friday between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM.
